THE MISSED ROUND

DIRECTED BY Rafael Martínez Moreno

This Colombian production is a sort of revision, much closer to reality and less idyllic, of Franco Zeffirelli’s 1970s classic «Campeón» («Champion»). Reynaldo Salgado «El Piedra»  is a failed boxer from Cartagena de Indias who makes a living as a «punching bag» in fights where he has no chance of winning. When a young street kid claiming to be his son appears before him, he will regain his lost hope for life, self-esteem, and dignity. The debut feature from short film director Rafael Moreno Martínez is a notable social and anthropological portrait of the most economically disadvantaged classes in his country.

Reynaldo “El Piedra” Salgado is a boxer who works as a “bait”: he fights without having the chance to win. One day Breyder, a boy eager to box who claims to be his son appears in his life. Father and son are forced to live together. Reynaldo finds someone who makes him feel useful again, and Breyder learns to admire the father who makes sacrifices and not the supposed champion. A different glance over the “sport of flat noses”.
