SHERRY & THE MYSTERY OF PALO CORTADO - Latido Films

SHERRY & THE MYSTERY OF PALO CORTADO

DIRECTED BY José Luis López Linares

Jerez’s sherry wines are among the most unique and particular in the world and one of the most peculiar of all is “palo cortado” (cut twig), a whim of nature whose origin remains a mystery, even for the very same oenologists who make it. Director José Luis López-Linares premiered this  work at Berlin Festival, almost as if it were thriller where he seeks to unravel the mystery by delving deep into the fascinating world of cathedral-like wineries, centenary vineyards and ancestral traditions, through interviews with experts from multiple disciplines (oenologists, winemakers, sommeliers, journalists…) and a fantastic selection of archival documents and footage that certify the centuries-old connection between these wines, art and history.

What we taste in a glass of Sherry is not just the fruit and its ferment but also the peculiar flavour of a place to which the Gods have been invited and where they have found a home. Jerez, where wine has been made for the last 3.000 years, is a place of stories, legendary tales, and, most of all, mysteries.
