Selected for the official section of the Berlin Film Festival (where Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón was a regular participant and won the Silver Bear in 1977 for «Camada Negra»), this is one of the most personal films by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, a key personality in Spanish cinema during the second half of the 20th century. It is a rural tragedy set in his native Cantabria, amid beautiful landscapes, revolving around a lethal dispute between two families over the ownership of a cow. The protagonist, Luis Tosar, was nominated for Best Actor at the European Film Awards, alongside veteran Juan Diego and emerging actress Marta Etura, who would subsequently win a Goya Award for «Celda 211.»

In the idyllic hills and valleys of a region in northern Spain, a fight to the death ensues: Gildo kills his neighbour Severo. The motive is an argument over a lovely fat milk cow. Rai, the victim´s son, feels attracted to Val, the daughter of his father´s murderer…
