TRUE CHAMPIONS

Before Bobby Farrelly directed the 2023 Hollywood remake, starring Woody Harrelson, of the successful 2018 Spanish film ‘Campeones’, a remake had already been filmed in Saudi Arabia in 2021, directed by Spanish director Manuel Calvo and featuring a cast of local stars. The story remains the same as the original, with the only change being the switch from basketball to soccer: An angry coach is ‘sentenced’ to take charge of a team of intellectually disabled individuals who, thanks to their innocence, tenderness, and generosity, make him reconsider his outlook and rediscover the joy of living.

Khaled is the assistant coach of a top Saudi Arabian football team. One day, After a stressful match, his frustration and bad attitude lands him in disciplinary court. He loses his job and is sentenced to the worst possible punishment for his ego: coaching a group of players with intellectual disabilities. Thanks to their innocence, tenderness and plenty of good humour, they will teach Khaled the things that really matter in life.
