GUNPOWDER HEART

DIRECTED BY Camila Urrutia

Guatemalan cinema is not one of the most prolific in the world. But sometimes it gives us little gems like this social drama co-produced with Spain and which marks the directorial debut of the promising Camila Urrutia. The film proposes a far from complacent portrait of Guatemala City, where chaos, violence, and corruption run rampant… There, Claudia and Maria live their forbidden love affair, taking refuge in the small havens of peace that the city hides. Until they are assaulted by three men and must decide whether to seek revenge or leave the matter behind and move on. The brilliant and very natural protagonists Vanessa Hernandez and Andrea Henry shared, ex aequo, a well-deserved acting award for this movie at the Iberian-American Festival of Huelva.

Claudia and Maria have fallen in love. They live in the city of Guatemala, a city full of stories related to abuse, unforgiving police officers and charming secret corners. Everything changes one night when they are attacked by three men. They manage to escape but they now have to choose if they want revenge.
